Children's Workshops

Ceramic workshops suitable for schools, community groups, extra curricular groups and summer schools.

Based in Warrenpoint, County Down, with 13 years teaching experience, I am now offering ceramics workshops to local schools and community groups.

Through my experience working with primary school children I have now developed age-appropriate projects for children from pre-school up. These projects are fun and creative and give participants experience working with real clay.

The workshops run approximately one hour and the pieces are brought to my studio to dry. They are then fired in an electric kiln. The pieces are ready for decoration and glaze application and after one further firing are ready to be taken home.

I provide the clay, tools, glaze and instruction. I will bring all supplies to the school or other venue. The workshops can be run during the regular school timetable or as part of the school’s extra curricular programme.

The benefits of these workshops are numerous. Any child can be successful with these projects. From my experience, I have reaused that often the process is more important than the final product. They learn more from exploration than producing a “perfect” final piece.

Working with clay also helps build self-esteem and expand creative thinking. Through this clay work they acquire manipulative skills, visual and spatial awareness and an ability to solve problems in an individual way.
